Fittings

Do I need to make an appointment?

You’re welcome to walk in, and we’ll fit you then and there if the boutique is quiet. Ringing ahead on 03 5722 1971 is worth it though - it means the fitting room is free and your fitter is yours for as long as you need. For prosthesis and post-surgery fittings we always recommend booking, so we can set aside proper time.

I’ve never had a professional fitting. What happens?

You’re in a private room with the door closed, and you stay in control the whole way through. We start by asking what isn’t working - wires that dig, straps that slip, nothing that fits in your size. Then we measure and assess the fit on your body, bring styles to you, and fit each one properly.

You can keep your top on until you’re comfortable, bring someone with you, and stop whenever you like.

How long does a fitting take?

Allow around twenty to thirty minutes. It can be quicker if you know what you’re after, and longer for bridal, maternity or prosthesis fittings, where there is more to try and more to talk through. We don’t rush and we don’t watch the clock.

Is a fitting free? Do I have to buy anything?

Fittings are completely free and there is no obligation to buy. If nothing feels right, that’s a perfectly good outcome - you’ll leave knowing your size and what to look for.

Do I need to know my size before I come in?

Not at all. Most women who come in are wearing the wrong size, so a size you’ve carried for years is a starting point at best. Bring the bra you’re least happy with if you like - showing us what fails is often more useful than a number.

How often should I be refitted?

Once a year is a sensible habit, and sooner after any change - weight up or down, pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause or surgery. Bodies move. A bra that was right two years ago may not be right now.

My daughter needs her first bra. What age do you fit from?

Girls develop at their own pace, so we go by what she needs rather than the number on her birthday. First-bra fittings are gentle, quick and explained as we go. Anyone under 18 should come in with a parent or carer. Give us a call beforehand if you’d like to talk it through first.

Do you fit after breast surgery?

Yes - it’s one of the things we’re known for. Sharon is a certified fitter in Advanced Breast Care and Amoena, and consultations are private, unhurried and confidential. Full detail is on the breast care page.

Sizing and fit

What sizes do you stock?

The boutique carries band sizes 8 to 26 and cups A to J and beyond, with swimwear from size 10 to 30. Ranges vary by brand - some labels start at a D cup, others stop at an E.

If we don’t have your size in a style you love, we’ll order it in for you.

Can you order in a style, size or colour you don’t have?

Usually, yes. Give us a call with the brand, style and size and we’ll find out where it stands.

There’s no deposit to pay. How long it takes comes down to the supplier: around a week if the stock is here in Australia, up to a couple of months if it has to come from overseas. Now and then a supplier’s minimum order means we can’t bring in a single piece, and we’ll tell you as soon as we know either way.

Can I work out my size at home?

You can get close. Measure firmly under the bust for your band size, then take the difference between your bust and under-bust measurements - roughly one cup per 2.5 cm. Our size guide has the band ranges.

Tape measurements are a guide, not an answer. Two bras in the same size from different brands can fit completely differently, which is why we fit on the body.

How do I know my bra actually fits?

Four quick checks:

  • The band is firm on the loosest hook, so there’s room to tighten as it wears in
  • The centre gore sits flat against your breastbone, not lifting away
  • The underwire follows your breast root and sits behind the tissue, not on it
  • Straps carry only a little of the weight - the band does the work

If any of those are off, come in. It takes ten minutes and it’s free.

What if I’m between sizes?

Very common, and it usually means sister sizing - going down a band and up a cup, or the reverse, to keep the same cup volume with a better-fitting band. It’s much easier to show you than to explain, so bring yourself in and we’ll try both.

Breast care and prosthesis

Which breast forms and mastectomy ranges do you carry?

Amoena, Advanced Breast Care and Tru Life breast forms, along with pocketed mastectomy bras and swimwear built to hold them properly. If the form or bra you need isn’t in stock, we’ll order it in.

How soon after surgery can I be fitted?

That depends on your surgery and your surgeon or breast care nurse, so please follow their advice on timing. When you’re ready, we’ll fit you for a soft post-surgery bra first and move to a permanent form when you and your care team are happy to.

Is there any funding or rebate for breast forms?

Yes. External breast prostheses attract assistance under the Australian Government’s External Breast Prostheses Reimbursement Program. You pay us at the time of your fitting and we give you an invoice to claim with Medicare. The rebate is currently $400 for each breast, so up to $800 if you need both. Amounts and claim periods do change, so it is worth checking the current terms with Services Australia.

Some private health funds cover the cost of the bras as well. Tell us when you come in if you have private cover and we’ll give you an invoice to claim.

Can I bring someone with me?

Please do. A partner, a friend, your daughter, your mum - whoever helps you feel steady. The room is private and the appointment is yours.

Orders, shipping and in-store services

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?

Postage is free on orders over $200. Under that, orders go by Express Post at a flat $15 - most parcels arrive within a few days, and next day to many locations.

We post within Australia only. If you are local, click and collect saves the postage altogether. Full detail on the shipping and returns page.

Can I collect my order from the boutique?

Yes. Click and collect is available, so if you are local you can pick your order up at 54 Reid Street, opposite the National Bank. It saves the postage and the wait, and gives us a chance to check the fit while you are here.

What if it doesn’t fit?

We’d far rather sort out a fit problem than have you live with it. Get in touch and we’ll talk through what’s wrong - often it’s a sister size or a different style rather than a different size.

You have ten days from receiving your order to arrange a return, and we are flexible beyond that if you give us a call. You can choose a refund, an exchange or store credit.

For health reasons we cannot accept briefs, swimwear or shapewear back, and return postage is at your own cost. Full detail on the shipping and returns page.

How can I pay?

We accept Afterpay, Visa, Mastercard and American Express, and we honour the Victorian Seniors Card discount.

With Afterpay you can pay in 4 interest-free payments over 6 weeks with Pay in 4. There is more detail on the shipping and returns page.

In store we also offer layby, gift vouchers and mail order.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

We do, and they’re a kind way to give lingerie without guessing a size. A voucher plus a free fitting means she chooses, and it fits.

Vouchers are valid for three years, and if you arrive a few months past that we will almost always still honour it. Call in or ring 03 5722 1971.

Do you offer layby?

Yes, layby is available in store, which suits silk, bridal corsetry or a full set you would rather pay off over a few weeks.

The usual arrangement is regular payments across about six weeks, and we can stretch that out if you need longer. Just ask.

Still wondering?Nothing is too small to ask. Call the boutique on 03 5722 1971 - you’ll speak to someone who fits bras for a living.
